Precarious Work in a Changing World Economy

October 24, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Arne L. Kalleberg, Kenan Distinguished Professor of Sociology

Major changes have engulfed the employment systems in virtually all advanced capitalist nations. Work has become more uncertain, unstable and insecure, and workers receive fewer social benefits. This talk will examine how the rise of “precarious work” in the global economy is transforming personal lives and social communities as well as the political stability of industrial societies.
