In the world of music, there is no composer better known and loved than Mozart. His symphonies, chamber music, concertos, piano pieces, and sacred music all resonate with beautiful familiarity and accessibility. His operas, however, with their bending of the “rules” of the art form, their subject matter, and their timeless melodies are perhaps his most impressive pieces. In this seminar, our third collaboration with the North Carolina Opera, we will explore the Enlightenment context of Mozart’s productions, be introduced to Mozart’s unique approach to opera, learn about the difficult task of producing an opera, and enjoy moderated vocal performances by professional singers. A superb primer on Mozart’s opera, this seminar will prepare all attendees to fully enjoy the North Carolina Opera’s performance of Cosi fan Tutte in early October.
