Civil Rights in Putin’s Russia

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia has been in theory a democratic country. President Vladimir Putin, however, has demonstrated repeatedly his penchant for authoritarianism and secrecy. This talk explores post-Soviet Russian society and assesses the state of civil rights in relation to economic prosperity and political participation.
