Muslim Women in the Media

This talk addresses how the media portrays Muslim women. Sometimes depicted as victims of male oppression and other times as intransigent traditionalists, Muslim women are stereotyped far beyond any other group. This talk will discuss the various ways Muslim women appear in American and international media, and demonstrate that the two-dimensional images of them in popular culture belie their diverse, rich, and varied lives.   

TIME: 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
