Julia Haslett, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies

What response does seeing human suffering demand of us? This question is at the center of filmmaker Julia Haslett’s most recent film An Encounter with Simone Weil, a personal essay documentary inspired by the French thinker and activist Simone Weil (1909-1943). Haslett will discuss the themes central to her documentary work: attention, empathy, and the complex dynamics of bearing witness.
