Yaakov Ariel, Professor of Religious Studies

Christian belief in the imminent “end times” has given rise to political support for Israel in America. According to the logic of some evangelical Christians, in order for the Christian Messiah to return, God’s chosen people must have a homeland and the ancient Temple be rebuilt—regardless of the implications for other peoples in the region. Yaakov Ariel traces the origins of this movement and describes its manifestations in America and the Holy Land.
