1984: National Screening and Day of Dialogue

April 4, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Carolina Public Humanities works to extend the resources of UNC-Chapel Hill to the community.  Our mission involves offering public events that draw upon the humanities to nurture a deeper understanding of history and culture and contribute to the development of a more humane world. With this spirit in mind, we’re partnering with Silverspot Cinema (and art house cinemas across the nation!) for a national screening and day of dialogue featuring George Orwell’s 1984.

We see the arts and humanities as essential to our understanding of the world and each other and look forward to engaging with the community after the screening to discuss ways to continue to foster creative expression, free speech, and open dialogue.  Our own Dr. Rachel Schaevitz will introduce the film and Dr. Lloyd Kramer will lead a community discussion on how films and the humanities help us think about and analyze public issues.
