America Divided: Lessons from Historical Elections
October 26 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
This year’s election seems unlike any other in U.S. history— and indeed, it is! It’s not, however, the first election that has divided America. This seminar will offer a glimpse into other moments in our nation’s past when elections polarized citizens and the republic felt threatened. We will examine the ways Americans moved on from divisive elections as well as continuities between past and present with significance—both hopeful and concerning—for today.
