About the novellas from Dr. King:

Lu Xun is known as the father of modern Chinese literature, and The True Story of Ah Q(1922) is his most famous work. Ding Ling leapt to fame with the publication of The Diary of Miss Sophia(1928) when she was only 23. Both of these works are representative of China’s tumultuous May Fourth period, a time of cultural, political and social ferment in the early 20th century. If you want to understand China today, you need to get a sense of its revolutionary past, and these works help us grapple with that dramatic history.
