Ethics of Humor

June 14, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

featuring Jeff Sebo, Research Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Associate Director, Parr Center for Ethics

Comedy is deeply connected with many of our best and worst tendencies. What makes comedy such a powerful force for good and evil, and how should we think about the ethics of offensive humor? In this discussion, we will consider what makes funny things funny, the positive moral value of comedy, the negative moral value of comedy, and how to tell whether or not a particular joke has “crossed the line” and why.
