Hollywood Moguls and the American Dream Factory

Featuring Rachel Schaevitz, Associate Director for State Outreach and Strategic Partnerships, Carolina Public Humanities

This presentation will take a deep dive into the lives of the founding moguls of Hollywood, all first-generation Jewish- American immigrants, and examine how they exemplified aspects of the American Dream mythology. We’ll explore common themes from the Golden Age of Hollywood and discuss how the American Dream is reflected in modern films.

This event is part of the Sidney and Mary Schochet Family Series on Jewish Life and Culture

UNC alumni Jan Schochet ( ’75) and her brother, Barry ( ’69), have established the Schochet Family Series on Jewish Life and Culture in honor of their parents, Sidney (’40) and Mary Schochet. The gift is used to support faculty travel to community colleges around the state, specifically to share presentations on topics related to Judaism.
