Night Sky with Exit Wounds: Adapting the Words of Ocean Vuong
January 29 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
in collaboration with Carolina Performing Arts
Ocean Vuong is a Vietnamese American poet, essayist, novelist, and Macarther “Genius” Grant recipient whose award-winning works have earned widespread national and international acclaim. This January, Carolina Performing Arts embarks on the creation of a new, co-commissioned opera conceived by theatre, opera, and film artist Kaneza Schaal (director of the Pulitzer Prize winning Omar) and musician Bryce Dessner. This will be the first adaptation of Vuong’s collection of poetry, Night Sky with Exit Wounds.
CPH is delighted to partner with Carolina Performing Arts and UNC scholars to present an evening of discussion of Vuong’s work as well as the operatic adaptation-in-progress. Participants are encouraged to stop by Flyleaf Books to pick up Ocean Vuong’s work in advance of the program.
For more information about the Carolina Performing Arts opera co-commission, including work-in-progress sharing events on January 30th and 31st, visit their website.
