Public Spaces & Collective Memories
October 8, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
This public forum will bring together a panel of speakers from UNC and the community, including faculty, students, church leaders, and local activists. There will also be opportunities for artistic commentaries. The goal is to expand the conversation about how public spaces represent historical memories and cultural values—and to encourage people to gain more insight into the experiences and viewpoints of those with whom they disagree. More generally, this event seeks to foster new discussions about the meaning of inclusive public spaces. We want to consider how knowledge of the past and open conversations about the future can lead to new policies and even to new pathways toward reconciliation in our polarized state.
Our panelists include:
Miranda Elston (UNC Graduate Student in Art History)
Dr. James Moeser (Former UNC Chancellor)
Katie Murray (Orange County Arts Commission)
Dr Deborah Stroman (UNC Gillings School of Public Health)
Mike Wiley (Playwright & Actor)
Edwin M. Yoder, Jr. (Contributing Columnist, News & Observer)
This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome. RSVP & share via Facebook.
