The Book of Revelation

October 9, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

A Distinguished Scholar Seminar featuring Bart D. Ehrman

The book of Revelation is perhaps the most mysterious, the most misunderstood, the most violent, and the most anomalous book in the Christian Bible. Join our distinguished scholar Dr. Bart Ehrman as he explores what this famous document actually reveals. Does it provide a divinely inspired blueprint for the future, either near or distant, of planet earth, or is there something else at play here? What of the doomsday interpreters throughout the course of history? Many people today think that the Old Testament presents a “God of Wrath” but the New Testament a “God of Love.” How can that be reconciled with the world-wide cataclysms sent from heaven described in Revelation? The book of Revelation describes the violent destruction of all God’s enemies and the glorious rewards to be given the followers of Jesus as the future rulers of the world. How do we reconcile that to Jesus’ teachings about loving one’s enemy, giving to the poor, and sacrificing oneself for the sake of others?
