All programming for Fall 2020 will be online!
Adventures in Ideas Webinars
Registration and Confirmation: Pre-registration is required for all Adventures in Ideas webinars. You may register online or may call us at 919-962-1544 to register. With your registration fee, you can attend the webinar in real time (complete with closed-captioning and live Q&A) or you can watch the recording at your leisure for up to 2 weeks after the event – or both! About a week or two before the webinar, registrants will be emailed instructions and a link to connect to the program online, as well as links to any background readings suggested by the speakers.
Tuition
The registration fee for each webinar is $40, or you can purchase an Adventures in Ideas SEASON PASS to all five fall webinars for only $150 ($125 for GAA members).
Scholarships and Discounts
General Alumni Association Sponsorship and Discounts: Adventures in Ideas webinars are co-sponsored by the General Alumni Association of the University of North Carolina. Membership in the G.A.A. is open to all friends of the University as well as former students. One of the benefits of membership is a $25 discount on a Fall 2020 Adventures in Ideas SEASON PASS. For information about membership in the G.A.A., or about any of the travel and enrichment programs sponsored by the G.A.A., please call 919-962-1208, write to the G.A.A. at Post Office Box 660, Chapel Hill NC 27514-0660, or visit the G.A.A. Web site at http://www.alumni.unc.edu.
UNC-CH graduate and undergraduate students are invited to attend our weekend seminars free of charge, space permitting, but advance registration is required. Students may request to register beginning the Monday before the seminar by calling our main phone number, 919-962-1544, or by emailing our registrar at human@unc.edu.
For all other students, please contact Max Owre at owre@email.unc.edu for special student initiative pricing.
Other discounts – such as our First Time, Early Bird, and Three or More discounts – only apply to in-person seminars and will not be in effect for Fall 2020.
K-12 and Community College Teachers Discounts & Stipends
Free tuition is offered for all Adventures in Ideas webinars for currently employed full-time teachers, librarians, and administrators in K-12 public and private schools and community colleges. Please see our page for teachers for more information.
Cancellation Policy: We reserve the right to cancel events in case of insufficient enrollment or changes in our current public health conditions that pose a risk to filming our webinars. If an event is cancelled, the full tuition amount will be refunded. Refunds for tuition (minus a $5 administrative fee for each registration) will be made for cancellations made at least one business day before a seminar.
Humanities in Action Virtual Talks
Registration and Confirmation: Pre-registration is required for Humanities in Action virtual events. You may register online or may call us at 919-962-1544 to register. With your registration fee, you can attend the virtual talk in real time (complete with closed-captioning and live Q&A) or you can watch the recording at your leisure for up to 2 weeks after the event – or both! About a week before the talk, registrants will be emailed instructions and a link to connect to the program online.
Tuition and Discounts: Tuition is $15.00 for each talk, or you can purchase a Humanities in Action SEASON PASS to all five fall talks for only $60.00. If you are a member of the UNC General Alumni Association (GAA), tuition is $10.00 for each talk or $45.00 for a Humanities in Action SEASON PASS. Registration must be received 1 business day before the event to receive the GAA discount tuition. If you take the GAA discount and are not a GAA member, you will be asked to join or pay the difference before the event. To check your membership status or to join the GAA, please visit alumni.unc.edu or call 800.962.0742.
Cancellation Policy: Refunds for tuition (minus a $5 administrative fee for each registration) will be made for cancellations made at least one business day before a talk unless you have a Season Pass, in which case there is no refund once the series has begun.
Hold the Date Policy
One of the benefits to virtual programming is that we have unlimited “seating” capacity for our Adventures in Ideas Webinars and our Humanities in Action talks. Therefore, our hold the date policy does not apply for Fall 2020.
Mailing List
Due to budget restrictions and the uncertainty of public health conditions, there will not be a brochure for Fall 2020 programming. However, we are mailing postcards listing the titles, speakers, and dates of our Adventures in Ideas webinars. Write or call us if you’d like to change your address or remove a name from or add a name to the mailing list.
For more information about our virtual programs contact the Humanities Program office at 919-962-1544. Additional information, including instructions for connecting online to our events, will be provided upon registration.
We also have a monthly electronic newsletter with interviews from faculty and participants, and listings of local humanities-related events. To subscribe, please send an email to human@unc.edu.
