Starting at St. Paul AME (101 N Merritt Mill Rd, Chapel Hill) and ending at University Baptist Church (100 S Columbia St, Chapel Hill).

Tuesday, April 11, 7 pm

At the Hillsborough Library (137 W Margaret Ln, Hillsborough) with Dr. Freddie Parker (NCSU) & Dr. Patrick T. Smith (Duke). This conversation about the political and cultural climate of our nation in 1963 will help participants to better understand the context in which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his famous Letter from a Birmingham City Jail.

At the Chapel Hill Library (100 Library Dr, Chapel Hill) with Dr. William Sturkey (UNC). Join us for a reading of the full Letter from a Birmingham City Jail and a discussion of its enduring significance. 

 

Letter from Poetry Slam

Wednesday, April 19, 7 – 8:30 pm

Hosted by Dasan Ahanu (2023 Piedmont Laureate) at the Eno Arts Mill (437 Dimmocks Mill Rd Suite 17, Hillsborough). This concluding program, presented by the Orange County Community Remembrance Coalition and the Orange County Arts Commission, will give participants an opportunity to creatively reflect on the Letter from a Birmingham City Jail and to add their own voices to the conversation.

 

Orange County Legislative Delegation Panel Discussion

Sunday, May 7, 3:00 pm

Moderated by Dr. Gene Nichol at Binkley Baptist Church (1712 Willow Dr, Chapel Hill), this panel will feature four elected officials from Orange County (Renée Price, Rani Dasi, Damon Seils, and Allen Buansi) discussing the legacy of Dr. King’s Letter from a Birmingham City Jail.
