A Special Seminar celebrating Joel Kingsolver
November 18-19, 2016
Carolina’s Kenan Distinguished Professor of Biology, Joel Kingsolver, will be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in October 2016. We’ve long admired his outstanding scientific work and appreciate his deep interest in and ability to explain the links between science, the humanities, and the arts. To honor Joel’s induction into the Academy, we’ve put together an interdisciplinary seminar to explore how scientists think creatively about their work, how artists and composers draw on creative processes to produce their art, and how science and art can be mutually supportive modes of human inquiry. In addition to Professor Kingsolver, we’ll hear from Cary Levine, Adrienne Erickcek, and Allen Anderson, all of whom will discuss how creativity in the arts and sciences leads to knowledge, pleasure, and critical insights.

Time & Cost
4:30 p.m. Friday, November 18 through 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016. . The tuition is $125 ($110 by Sept. 1). Tuition for teachers is $62.50 ($55 by Sept. 1). Teachers can also receive a $75 stipend after attending (click here for more information) and 10 contact hours for 1 unit of renewal credit. The optional dinner Friday evening is $20.00.
