The Utility and Limitations of Military Force

The United States accounts for more than a third of the global defense budget, yet still has difficulty influencing the behavior of its adversaries. Patricia Sullivan will show how militarily-powerful countries are challenged when they use force against much weaker enemies. This lecture will explore the utility and limitations of military force as a foreign policy tool, and discuss how decision-makers may better anticipate the likelihood of success before troops are committed to battle.

TIME: 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
