The Theodora Experience: Sense and Sound from the 18th Century
Monday, January 27, 2014
FREE and open to the public.
An Arts@TheCore Panel Discussion in conjunction with Carolina Performing Arts’ January 30, 2014 presentation of Handel’s Theodora, with Harry Bicket and The English Concert.
This discussion will focus on “imagining the past,” in terms of both Handel’s imagining of his 1749 opera Theodora, and 21st-century listeners’ imagining of 18th-century period music. Join Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Music, Annegret Fauser, and panel members Brent Wissick and Jeanne Fischer from UNC’s Department of Music, Adam Nathaniel Versenyi from Dramatic Arts, and Chad Ludington and Mi Gyung Kim from NC State’s Department of History as they discuss their own musical, historical, political, and religious imaginings of Theodora. This event is part of the 2014 North Carolina HIP Music Festival.
