OLIVER TWIST by Charles Dickens

February 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

featuring Kimberly J. Stern, Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature

Oliver Twist is both a topical satire and a moral fable aimed at the workhouse system in Victorian England, as well as the 1834 New Poor Law, which Dickens saw as a subordination of the needs of the poor to institutional control and efficiency.

Charles Dickens was the “quintessential Victorian author” and was “much loved for his great contribution to classic English literature. His epic stories, vivid characters and exhaustive depiction of contemporary life are unforgettable.”
