The Legacies and Significance of Brown v. Board of Education
May 4, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the influential Supreme Court decision that overturned the educational system of racially segregated schools. In this seminar, a leading expert on the legal history of educational policies and a longtime public school history teacher will offer their well-informed assessments of how the legacies of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas continue to affect public education, race relations, and political conflicts in the United States. What has changed since 1954, what has stayed the same, and what new challenges have emerged since that era? We’ll explore these questions with a fact-based analysis and then expand the discussion with a panel of North Carolina educators who will offer additional perspectives on the polarizing educational issues of our own time.
