Oh the Humanities is an event series which helps us fulfill our mission of bridging the divide between campus scholarship and the wider community by reaching a broader demographic in non-traditional settings. This is a game show experience akin to NPR’s Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me—but just not on the radio…yet. We pair two UNC faculty members with comedians from DSI to compete in a series of lighthearted games centered around their research.
Each show is tailored differently, but some possible games include:
- Important Scholarship/Trivial Application: Faculty members will apply something they study to news or popular culture (e.g. which Shakespearean character is most like [Newt Gingrich]? etc.)
- Amazing Facts!: Professors provide an interesting fact about something they study. Comedians will write two that are not real—audience will guess which is true.
- Who/What am I: Professors bring some person/idea/thing they study and comedians will have 20 yes/no questions to guess it.
- The big unanswered question: Comedians will try to solve a major conundrum in the professors’ field. The professors will choose the best answer.
- Villain/Hero of the professors’ discipline.
- Crossfire: The professors will ask each other questions in rapid fire fashion.
- Call in Guest: Someone/Something the professors study will call in and they must guess who/what they are.
Time: All shows start at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets: $6.00 – can be purchased in advance here.
