Embodying the university’s mission to extend the resources of the University to all citizens and community members of North Carolina, the Program in the Humanities & Human Values offers engaging and innovative public seminars and lectures on a variety of topics and themes throughout the year. Our programs draw upon the humanities to nurture a deeper understanding of history and culture, enrich the life of the mind, and contribute to the development of a more humane world. The Program in the Humanities integrated the NC Civic Education Consortium into its programs in April, 2012. In conjunction, the Program and the Consortium support NC teachers by offering quality professional development programs, which include access to scholars on key topics, innovative lesson plans, and interactive pedagogical training. Each year, approximately 200 teachers attend our trainings and seminars. In this year alone, lesson plans created to compliment seminar topics were downloaded over 50,000 times! Our programs would not be possible without your generous support. Gifts of all sizes help ensure our programs remain accessible, providing all North Carolinian’s access to engaging scholarship and quality opportunities for life-long learning at Carolina. In addition, private funds are crucial in supporting the high-quality professional development and curriculum we provide at no cost for our state’s K-12 teachers.
