About the Consortium

The NC Civic Education Consortium, a program of UNC-Chapel Hill’s Program in the Humanities & Human Values, works to extend the resources of the University to North Carolina’s K-12 educators. We offer quality professional development programs which include access to scholars on key topics, innovative lesson plans, and interactive pedagogical training.

What are educators saying about the Consortium?

“Your resources are INVALUABLE in my classroom.  Not a week goes by when I have not somehow incorporated a lesson plan, a segment of a lesson plan, or at least some of your outstanding primary sources into my instruction.  Transitioning into the era of Common Core using the new Essential Standards in US History and Civics and Economics has been made much more approachable because of your tools and resources that increase student engagement and move students towards higher order thinking. Quite honestly, you are the most important bookmark in my vast web-based teaching toolbox. Moreover, I had the awesome opportunity to attend your Challenges to Democracy workshop over the summer.  I found being back on a college campus, surrounded by academics refreshing and rejuvenating.  I look forward to attending more in the future. Thank you for your outstanding commitment to educators and students in our state.” ~Jennie Bryan, Social Studies Teacher, Brunswick County
